200-miles and counting

Today, I passed the 200-mile mark for this training cycle with a solid 7-miler on a beautiful day. I finished in 1:03, for an average pace of 8:57/mi…a sign of continued improvement for me despite the weirdness with my knee. I almost had a perfect bell-curve on my splits, but mile 5 and 6 were …

Week 15 off to good start

Had a nice 9-miler this morning, finished in 1:20 with no knee issues. I pushed my HR more than I was supposed to, but again, I was feeling relaxed so I just cruised. I’m not sure if this is having any negative effect (not sticking to my training plan HR targets for two long-runs in …

NYC Marathon for state #10!

10 down, 40 to go! What an unforgettable experience this was! I finished the New York City marathon on Sunday, for my 10th marathon, and 10th state completed, and it was remarkable for all kinds of reasons. Records were broken all over the place, with the top three finishers all coming in under course-record time, …

Dr. Doolittle Run

Waterfowl

This morning’s run was downright euphoric! The weather was gorgeous, sunrise perfect, and the run felt smooth and effortless. I did 14-miles in 2 hours and 30 minutes, with 60-second walk breaks at each mile. At times, I found myself running sub-8 pace and was surprised at how much it felt like a relaxed cruise. …

Sunrise run

Got myself out the door for an early morning run today. It was nice to be out under the stars before sunrise, the cool and quiet Colorado morning and trail all to myself. It was a quick jaunt, but turned into a good-quality tempo run: 5:30am, 65-degrees 3.0 miles in 30:48 10:16/mi avg. Mile 1 …

Waukesha running

Well good morning, Waukesha! Visiting our friends, the Weavers, I enjoyed the altitude benefit on our first day out of Colorado, and cruised through a relaxed 7-miler this morning. It was a nice and cool morning, and wasn’t as buggy as I had anticipated. Their neighborhood offered up some significant, but gradual, hills. It also …

Zermatt marathon?

Back from an outstanding, yet quick, Spring Break trip to Zermatt, Switzerland with my two younger brothers. We had a great time skiing, eating, and hanging out. Walking through Zermatt, my runner’s-radar was picking up some vibes: epic trail runs, old-town street runs with no gas-powered cars allowed, stunning views, friendly and enthusiastic locals… …seems …

Torn quadricep update

Been nursing a torn quad for quite a while now. It seems like this won’t go away. I finally went to the doc, and will begin physical therapy. However, the advice is still the same old “let pain be your guide”. I first pulled it playing soccer back in August. I gave it about 3 …

Back to School, Where’d Summer Go?

Hard to believe it’s been so long since my last post here. My first “summer off” since starting my new job has been a blur. However, it’s been a marvelous, rewarding, and full summer blur. Unfortunately, it wasn’t full of much running. I’ve been sporadic at best, with a pattern of several days off punctuated …

School’s out, running’s fine, bugs are annoying

Tonight’s 5-miler was a good one, finished in 46-minutes for just over a 9min/mile average pace. I was treated to a stunning sunset over the Indian Peaks, viewed across a lush green panoramic open space area for much of the run. Then, I followed it by 35-minutes of yoga, really working my core and hip …
