I now pronounce you…speed racer!

I’m in Sacramento now, really looking forward to officiating the wedding of Jennifer & Robert tomorrow. Have you checked out their website yet? Do it now! They’re attempting to do their wedding for $1,000, and they’re blogging about it at 1KWedding.com
I’ve never officiated a wedding before, and I’m really honored that they wanted me to do it. I arrived this morning, and we went to the County Courthouse where I was sworn in as a Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages for the State of California. I was surprised a bit when they ran down the “rules” with me, which included: no references to God, Jesus, Lord, or religion. Um, really?
Well, this puts a kink in my “script” I’ve been working on. Robert and Jennifer are Christians who are in love with God first, and each other second. How could I possibly officiate their wedding, making it personal to them, without reflecting their promise to God, as well as their promise to each other? Hmmm…I’ll sleep on that tonight I think.
As a “bachelor party”, we had a blast this afternoon at Race Place Motorsports, a high-speed indoor go-kart racing establishment. After getting our headsock and firesuit, we headed to the briefing room where we were oriented to all the different rules and what the different race flags mean. Then we headed out to the pits, and got our helmets and neck-collars, before getting assigned to our cars.
After a 10-lap qualifying session, we were lined up for our 20-lap race! What a blast! The cars top-out around 40mph, and the track was a quarter-mile of tight turns, high speed straightaways, and big sweeping turns. The groom, Robert, was the fastest qualifier, and ended up with the fastest single lap of the day. I started the race in 3rd position, but managed to squeak by and take the lead, holding on to it through the finish. I wish we had one of these places in Colorado!

That sounds like a lot of fun Kev! So…are they gonna throw you in jail if you say “God” during the ceremony. I bet you should just stick with what you planned. You can give Robert and Jennifer a disclaimer before the ceremony that you’re not actually an ordained minister (but you did stay at a Holiday Inn last night)
Have fun.
