Update on Veya
By Kevin | August 2, 2008
After two visits to the Vet, yesterday and today, it seems there really is something wrong with Veya. She hasn’t eaten anything in about 6 days, she’s been drinking her entire water bowl faster than I can keep it filled (all day long), and is completely lethargic. At first, I thought it was her reaction to the intense heat wave we’re having. We just broke the Colorado record for most consecutive days over 90-degrees, set in 1901. The streak is still active, at day #20 over 90, with many of those days over 100-degrees. Today’s high is forecasted to be 104. But, Friday morning’s run was so abnormal for her that I knew something was wrong. Later that night, she vomited too.
The Vet has found that her urine is critically dilute, and she is having some pain in her lower abdomen. A blood sample was taken today for testing, and we have a follow-up appointment on Monday. The most likely next-steps are an x-ray and/or ultrasound. Possible diagnoses at this point include: liver disease, kidney disease, Cushing’s disease, or lymphoma. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing that serious.
